Guided by the CYLA Strategic Plan and by emerging opportunities and events in Zambia’s political, economic and social landscape, CYLA is currently implementing several programs.
CYLA Youth Debate September 2019
CYLA is accepting applications from youth in political parties, civic society, students, social movements and youth activists who are interested in taking part in the Youth Debate Zambia session to be held from 26-27 September 2019 in Lusaka. We are interested in applications for participation in the debate session from individuals who have a keen interest in debating with their peers the best way forward in increasing youth participation in electoral processes increasing youth voter turnout.
CYLA Youth Debate August 2019
On 30 August 2019, CYLA with support funding USAID and technical support from the National Democratic Institute conducted a debate for 40 youth drawn from political parties, CSOs, media, university and youth activists to debate how to increase the number of youth in parliament. The participants proposed and argued for various solutions, including a legislated quota system for youth MPs, a quota system for party adoptions, a quota system for party leadership positions and increased capacity building for aspiring youth leaders.
CYLA BUDGET ANALYSIS DISCUSSIONS
CYLA is engaging youths in National budget analysis discussions aimed at stimulating young people’s understanding and getting their perspective of the 2020 proposed national budget. CYLA working in partnership with the University of Zambia Business and Economics Students Association (UNZABECA) on October 26th held a budget analysis discussion at the University of Zambia in Lusaka. CYLA aims at extending these meaningful discussions to other parts of the country and that is why a similar discussion is proposed to be held in Kabwe on 29th November 2019, Central province where many youths will gather to analyse the 2020 Proposed National Budget from a youthful perspective.
2021 cyla youth manifesto
CYLA is currently working on formulating a national youth manifesto that speaks to the social, economic, and political aspirations of young people in Zambia. The National Youth Manifesto will shape the country’s development and governance agenda for the 2021 general elections.
The “GET INVOLVED” Campaign
The main objective of this campaign is to increase the interest and participation of young people and women in social, political and economic issues in Zambia and set the tone for the 2021 general elections.
CYLA Ambassador and Membership drive
CYLA intends to create capacity building platforms across the country for young people to dialogue and engage with each other without using violence as a means of conflict resolution.
This will be done through creation of provincial chapters/hubs for networking, advocacy and political and governance educational activities. The CYLA Ambassadors will be key contact persons and representatives for CYLA in their respective provinces and will be coordinating and managing the provincial chapters/hubs across the country to aid CYLA membership drive.
CYLA/PYPA TRAINING
CYLA, on behalf of the Green Forum is currently implementing the Program for Young Politicians in Africa (PYPA). The program brings together 44 young politicians from 9 political parties with representation in Parliament from Zambia and Malawi.The programme aims to train youths from political parties with representation in parliament to build their capacity in governance, communication, public speaking, accountability, transparency and political mobilization.
